Do you journal?

Over the last year or so I've had a lot of conversations with clients & friends around journaling and I've been hearing the same thing from a lot of people who have never had a journaling practice.

It sounds like this:

"I feel like journaling would be a really good thing for me, but I'm not sure what to write. When I've tried, I end up staring at a blank page & feeling unsure of where to start."

You don't know what you don't know, right?

I'm a huge fan of journaling and its benefits.

Personally, I began journaling in my early teen years. Back then, my journal was all about having a safe place to express the many feelings I had.

Remember the MANY feelings there were to navigate in the teen years? Sheesh. Journaling felt like a lifeline for me back then.

Since then, journaling has served a lot of different purposes for me over the years.

  • I've journaled to express feelings & find clarity on life circumstances.
  • I've journaled to remember important events in my life.
  • I've written letters I'll never send, simply to release feelings & get clarity on how I feel or what I want to express to someone.
  • I've held journaling practices to support me in mindset changes & developing habits.
  • I've journaled to work through things in my past
  • I've journaled to develop self-love, confidence, & gratitude.
  • I've journaled for self-exploration & manifestation.
  • I've journaled to bring awareness to different parts of my life.

I've practiced a lot of different ways of keeping a journal and still do. It really depends on what my intention is - what am I wanting to get out of my journaling practice? And honestly, that changes all the time for me.

I think that my journaling practice was somewhat intuitive for me and I realize that it's not so intuitive for everyone, especially if you have never been a journaler.

Hearing a version of the above statement about not knowing what to write so many times in conversation inspired me to create something to share.

I've created a downloadable PDF for you full of journaling prompts.

If you can relate to the above statement about not being sure what to write, then the journaling prompt sheet below is for you.

It's also for you if you love to journal & would enjoy having some writing prompts to work with.

Working with a prompt is still one of my favorite forms of journaling.

I promise these will keep you busy writing for a while!

I've learned a lot of different ways & practices for journaling over the years, which I plan to share more of in the future.

For now, I'll just encourage you to start writing and see where it takes you.

Notice how it makes you feel.

Ask yourself what you would like to get out of journaling?

Cater your journaling practice to what you want it to be for yourself.

You do you.

Happy writing,

Shelly
